Writing that keeps the evidence attached.

I am Cyprian Kimomo, a food systems researcher and writer. Five years of field agronomy in Kenya taught me how agricultural advice behaves when it meets a real farm. A master's at the University of Edinburgh taught me how to weigh sixty-nine studies against each other and say what they actually support.

I write for editors who need the facts to hold, and for companies that need difficult research turned into something a reader can use.

What this portfolio proves

Two capabilities, one writer

A

Writing an editor would publish

Original angles, primary sources, numbers that survive a fact-check, and structure that carries a reader who did not come in caring. I read the study, not the press release, and I say plainly when the evidence is thinner than the headline.

  • Reported and explanatory features
  • Research synthesis for a general audience
  • Analysis and argument grounded in field data
B

Writing that solves a company's problem

Evidence briefs, white papers and thought leadership for teams whose subject is genuinely technical. I can read a trial, judge what it supports, and write a claim that legal, clinical and marketing can all live with.

  • Evidence briefs and literature reviews
  • White papers and long-form reports
  • Bylined thought leadership and case studies

Selected writing

All work
01 The fertiliser gap Africa cannot close with rate alone African governments have spent twenty years chasing a fertiliser target measured in kilograms per hectare. The recommendations farmers actually receive leave out the part that decides whether the nitrogen reaches the crop. Food systems 02 What 640 field comparisons say about two crops on one field Intercropping maize with legumes usually produces more food per hectare than either crop grown alone. A synthesis of sixty-nine sub-Saharan African studies shows how much more, and how unevenly the advantage is spread. Sustainability 03 Hidden hunger is a supply problem before it is a diet problem More than half the world consumes too little of several essential micronutrients. Treating that as a failure of individual choice misreads where the shortfall is created. Public health 04 Continuous glucose monitoring outside diabetes An evidence brief for product, clinical and marketing teams building consumer metabolic health tools. What the trials show, what they do not yet show, and which claims survive review. Health technology 05 The future of personalised nutrition An independent evidence synthesis on what AI, wearables and continuous health data can support in preventive health today, and where the research still falls short of the commercial promise. Seventeen primary sources, including the null and contradictory findings. White paper 06 The cover crop that mattered where there was no fertiliser budget An eighteen-month on-farm trial in Kenya, the result that only showed up at the bottom of the input range, and what happened when it reached seventeen hundred growers. Written in the format a company commissions for a customer story. Case study

Every piece here is self-initiated and written to demonstrate capability. None was commissioned or published by an outlet.

Where I am most useful

Full expertise
01

Food systems

Production, soil fertility, smallholder economics and the distance between an agronomic recommendation and a farm that can act on it.

02

Sustainability

Cropping system design, nitrogen and emissions, cover crops and the trade-offs that get flattened in sustainability copy.

03

Public health and nutrition

Diet quality, micronutrient adequacy and the link between what a food system produces and what people can actually eat.

04

Health technology

Consumer metabolic tools, personalised nutrition and digital advisory products, assessed against the trials rather than the launch deck.

04

How I can help

Services in detail
01

Researched articles and features

Commissioned pieces for publications and for company editorial programmes, from 800-word explainers to reported long-form.

02

Evidence briefs and white papers

A defensible read of the literature on a question your team needs settled, written so that a non-specialist stakeholder can act on it.

03

Thought leadership and case studies

Bylined commentary for founders and technical leads, plus customer stories that hold up when a sceptical buyer reads them closely.

Background

More about me

I trained as an agronomist in Kenya and spent five years on the practical side of food security, designing field trials, running a seedling operation that supplied more than thirty thousand farmers, and advising smallholders on nutrient management for the Ministry of Agriculture.

That work left me with a specific instinct. Most agricultural and nutrition advice fails not because the science is wrong but because it is written for conditions the reader does not have. My master's at Edinburgh gave me the quantitative tools to test that instinct against the published record rather than against anecdote.

I now write for people who need the distinction between what a study shows and what a claim asserts to be handled carefully.
